Mohammed N. Anwar arrived in Canada in 1983. He gained employment at an Indian restaurant in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal. This experience and exposure to perfect Indian cuisine brought him to partner with friend Syed Fazlul Bakht. The two of them set out in search of an ideal location. Hamilton was the chosen favourite for it’s small town community friendliness, opportunity of fast growth and no other Indian restaurant have position themselves here. So on April 7, 1987 Gate of India Restaurant was opened, Safiqul Karim and Syed Jubed Ali joined with them as a partner. Syed Fazlul Bakht chose the name Gate of India because it’s very famous historical memorial in India to commemorate and respect the 70,000 Indian solders that scarified their lives in World War I for freedom of the Indian culture.
